RAISING POSITIVE AND HAPPY KIDS

Orchids-The International School organized a Seminar on ‘Raising Positive and Happy Kids’ by Mr.Guru Nadkarni, Director, E-Plus Learning Solution, Pvt. Ltd. on 18.2.2012. His address to the parents was very effective and self-analyzing. A parent ought to spend sufficient, quality time with his children to listen to them, tell them bedtime stories, help them read and encourage them to choose their friends with good attitude and behaviour. Children are like bamboo seeds and will rise high at an appropriate time. A parent needs patience and undue emphasis on marks must necessarily be avoided. Home is the most ideal place to influence children and moral support at home is indispensable for a child to grow well.

As children are great imitators, leading by examples is very important and effective. ‘Children don’t do what you say; they do what you do’. ‘In case of a failure, become a friend, not a judge’. Lost time cannot be retrieved and there are no U turns in life.

Sub-conscious mind doesn’t think; it acts. Feeding positive commands to the child helps him to face challenges confidently and with right spirit. Applause is a great encourager and helps the child to reap rewards. Some useful thoughts:

  • Don’t keep telling your child too much about your childhood accomplishments.
  • Let your children know that nobody can make them feel inferior.
  • Don’t talk negatively about your children in their presence.
  • Entrust your children some tasks which could make them feel empowered.
  • Never be rude to your child.
  • Make them realize, ‘Failure is not a sin; Giving up is!’
  • Reinforce positive thoughts.

The thought-provoking Seminar was supplemented by effective video clippings. The Seminar was an enriching experience and was attended by parents and teachers of Orchids..

SPORTS FOR PARENTS AT ORCHIDS

It was a fun-filled hour for parents, children and the spectators at Orchids-The International School on18.2.2012. Some exciting games were arranged for parents (couples exclusively) and some involved the participation of their children also. Parents of children from Nursery to IX participated in all the games with a good spirit and cheer and they probably relived their childhood for a brief time. ‘Dress up the child and run’ was for the parents of pre-primary kids. That was cute, slow and steady. ‘Rush for Shopping’, ‘Balancing the balloon’ were very entertaining and there was ‘One-minute game’ for fathers and ‘Musical Chairs’ for mothers separately. The games revealed their team work, agility and above all their spirit of participation. The hustle and bustle, the gaiety and glee of the ‘Sports Day for Parents’ will be remembered for a long time to come.

FREEHAND DRAWING COMPETITION (17/2/2012)

A freehand drawing is simply a drawing done by hand without the use of tools or aids such as stencils, tracing, etc. It is a style of drawing made without the use of guiding or measuring instruments. It's not about the end result as much, it is about the taking part and creating ideas in art, because everyone has ideas within and as an artist these need to be expressed through the process of art. Freehand drawing will free you up to go out into the world and draw anything, and anywhere you please. Freehand drawing is going to improve their imagination skills. In the world, there are people who can't read, but we never think of those who can't draw. To overcome this, we in Orchids conducted freehand drawing competition for our pre-primary students on 17/02/12. The students poured in their creativity on the paper. They enjoyed a lot by drawing and colouring.
