The 12th Junior Leadership Contest

The 12^th Junior Leadership Contest, the novel and unique interschool competition of Orchids, once again attracted participants from leading schools of Hyderabad on 7.11.14.Each school was represented by six students of VIII and IX classes, ready to compete with others and take the lead. They were all leaders in their own right, leading their school from the front with their commitment, confidence and competence.

The assertive and motivational School Song by the School choir befitted the significant Opening ceremony which was graced by Principal of Orchids, Mr. C.Srikanth and teachers of the contesting schools. 

The Chief Guest of the Valedictory Function,  motivated the students to dream big and aspire and conveyed her good wishes to all the participants and winners of the contest. She asserted that Honesty, Confidence, Compassion and decision making skills shape them into future leaders. The lessons learnt are more valuable than the awards. Every participant is a winner as the Chief Guest asserted.

The Junior Leadership Contest definitely offers its participants a platform of opportunities to explore, experience and excel in skills of leadership. The prize winning teams were Orchids- The International School, Delhi Public School, Secunderabad, and Jubilee Hills Public School, Hyderabad. Rayyan Asif Khan of Orchids, P.V. Nishit of DPS, Secunderabad, Sai Ram G. of Orchids bagged the first, second and the third prizes respectively.

Orchids extends its best wishes to the Individual and Team prize winners.

Children's Day Celebrations

CHILDREN’S DAY CELEBRATED

Childhood is a memorable phase in everyone’s life. A day for children coincides with the birthday of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first P.M. of India.

Children’s Day celebrated on Nov 14 was a spectacular show. The morning assembly was a special one conducted with all its regular features by teachers. Later the one- hour programme presented by  teachers for entertaining children incorporated songs, skits, PowerPoint presentation, jokes and Magic Show. Students were immensely pleased and applauded each and every programme.

A musical instrument is an instrument created or adapted to make musical sounds. In principle, any object that produces sound can be a musical instrument —it is through purpose that the object becomes a musical instrument. 

Our current theme with our Nursery children is ‘Musical Instruments’. As a culmination to this OISH has conducted PERFORMANCE OF MUSIC TEACHERS on 31^st October 2014.

The performance will help the children to explore music, sounds and rhythm created by each instrument.

Read together every day

Read to your child every day. Make this a warm and loving time when the two of you can cuddle close.

Give everything a name

Build your child's vocabulary by talking about interesting words and objects. For example, "Look at that airplane! Those are the wings of the plane. Why do you think they are called wings?"

Say how much you enjoy reading

Tell your child how much you enjoy reading with himor her. Talk about "story time" as the favorite part of your day.

Read with fun in your voice and act out scenes

Read to your child with humor and expression. Use different voices. Ham it up! You and your child can act out scenes.

Know when to stop

Put the book away for awhile if your child loses interest or is having trouble paying attention.

Be interactive

Relate and connect to real life incidents. Discuss what's happening in the book, point out things on the page, ask questions and ask the child to predict what will happen next. You can sometimes read the story and let the child complete it the way he/she wants to.

Read it again and again

Go ahead and read your child's favorite book (if he/she wants) for the 100th time!

Talk about writing, too

Mention to your child how we read from left to right and how words are separated by spaces.

Point out print everywhere

Talk about the written words you see in the world around you. Ask your child to find a new word on each outing.

Let the Child Narrate the Story

Once you have finished reading the story to the child, let him/her narrate it to you. This will not only build up the child's vocabulary but also boost the confidence and build up his/her public speaking skills.

Get your child evaluated

Please be sure to see your child's pediatrician or teacher as soon as possible if you have concerns about your child's language development, hearing, or sight.

Grand Parents Day held on 17th oct

“Nobody can do for little children what grandparents do.  Grandparents sprinkle stardust over the lives of little children”. ~ Alex Haley.

The relationship between grandchildren and grandparents is a very special one. Grandparents have magnanimous love for their grandchildren and pamper them a lot.

The tales that these elderly tell at the bed time to their grandchildren help them learn a lot about life and also develop their interest in social events and activities. Many children learn social values and also virtues like honesty, kindness, gratitude and faith.

Grandparents with their kind advice and useful tips give a direction to their lives and children develop better insight into their lives in future. Above all, the blessings and wishes of the grandparents inspire the children who feel morally boosted and supported to take up the tougher challenges or tasks in life.

To give children an opportunity to show their love and appreciation for their grandparents and also to create an enjoyable, memorable experience for children and their grandparents, OISH celebrated Grand Parents Day on 17^th October 2014. As the Theme was Retro; decorations, music and every child’s dress were according to the Theme.

The tiny tots have prepared a programme for their grandparents with a dance and a loving speech. Games were conducted and prizes were distributed to the winners. The grandparents were given cards which were made by their grandchildren.

Grandparents shared some of their experiences with their grandchild and other children as well.

The school offered refreshments and token of love to all the grandparents who were so overwhelmed and happy. They left the school giving many compliments and blessings to the school and its team.

                                                                     SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT – I

                                                                  RESCHEDULED SCHOOL TIMINGS

Dear parent,

1.       Keeping in view the Summative Assessment – I for Grade I to V which will be held with effect from 13/10/14 (Monday), the school timings would be as under for the entire school. (Pre- Primary to Class- X) from 13/10/14 to 16/10/14.

                    a) Reporting time: 8:30am

                    b) Dispersal time: 01:40pm

2.       As per the instructions of management students who have cleared all their school fee dues would be permitted to appear in the exam. ( Kindly ignore, if fees is already paid).

3.       The school will revert back to normal timings from 17/10/14 (Friday).

4.       Keeping in view the Summative Assessment – I for grades I to V, Academic Fair scheduled on 18/10/14 is postponed. The new date will be informed shortly.

YELLOW COLOUR DAY

“Yellow wakes me up in the morning.  Yellow gets me on the bus every day. Yellow has taught me the true meaning of sacrifice. Yellow makes me suffer. Yellow is the reason I am here.” -Lance Armstrong.

Yellow is the color of happiness, and optimism, of enlightenment and creativity, sunshine and spring. With this objective of introducing the colours to the Pre Primary section of OISH has celebrated “Yellow colour Day” on, Thursday, 25^th September 2014 for the students of Nursery.

Yellow is the color of gold, butter, and ripe lemons. Yellow is often associated with food.

Yellow is associated with the expression of thoughts and the intellectual side of the mind. It can therefore aid the powers of memory and clear thinking, decision-making and good judgment.

The children enjoyed the day by doing fun activities related to this colour.
